The
South Carolina Technical College Systems has been a model for the
nation since 1961. In the 1960's, The Center for Accelerated
Technology Training's (CATT) plan to help new and expanding plants
"start-up in the black" attracted international attention.
More than 40 states and a number of
foreign countries have sent representatives to study the success of
the Technical College System in helping bring diversified,
prestigious industries to South Carolina.
In meeting the needs of industry in
South Carolina, the Economic Development Division through CATT has
provided short term pre-employment training programs for preparing
over 190,000 people for jobs in more than 1,550 facilities.
These start-up training assistance
programs are temporary and are specially designed to meet the
specific needs of the new or expanding operations. The Center for
Accelerated Technology Training is operated under the management of
the Economic Development Division on a statewide basis with the
cooperation of the involved technical college.
