Compliance

NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE
Northeastern Technical College is committed to ensuring users have access to regular and timely instruction in the use of the library and other learning/information resources.  The library staff provides ongoing instruction in library literacy, sometimes referred to as library orientation, for faculty, staff and students.   These training sessions, either scheduled for groups or on an individual basis, are designed to assist users in their use of library and other learning or information resources.  In addition to training sessions at the Cheraw Campus, the librarian has conducted sessions at community campuses for campus coordinators and class groups.

Differing from library orientation, which generally provides an overview of services, library literacy sessions focus on the usage of learning resources and the methods utilized to locate information needed to conduct research.  The library conference room is used for group instruction and is equipped with Internet access, an LCD projector, a computer workstation and a large wall screen to support group instruction.

Library orientation is provided to groups and individuals requesting an overview of the services available.  In addition, a virtual tour of the facilities and the services offered is available on the library website.  Tours and informational sessions can be scheduled by contacting the library staff.

The Success Center is a learning resources center providing assistance in the use of learning/information resources.  With 20 computers available for student use, and 17 computers available in the adjoining SmartClassroom, the College provides technology access and assistance needed by groups and individuals to utilize learning and information resources.   The Success Center is often used by students to access online courses or to take proctored exams in online courses.  The Success Center provides assessment services for students enrolled in both traditional and online courses in compliance with the Consortium of College Testing Centers (CCTC) of which Northeastern Technical College is a member.

The Instructional Support Services Division supports regular and timely instruction in the use of library and other learning/information resources by providing professional development activities during in-service dates for faculty.   Sessions are offered to faculty, staff and students throughout the year to provide access and training in the use of technology available in respective learning resources centers.

Instructional Support Services survey results
indicate user satisfaction with the services provided.  The Instructional Support Services Division, using a continuous improvement process, seeks to identify technologies that might be appropriate to enhance student learning.  The Instructional Support Services Committee provides recommendations regarding strategies and enhancements which might be of benefit to the students and faculty.

Funding for library and other learning resources is secured via grants, lottery proceeds and local departmental budgets.   These funds are then used to procure new technologies and services and provide training opportunities for students, faculty and staff to most efficiently utilize these learning resources.
