Northeastern Technical College students who have an interest in electronics, engineering or technology can build their careers and get paid for it through an internship program at Duke Energy. The Power Careers Program provides students with an introduction to the business of power plant operations and supports their completion of an associate degree relevant to the utility industry. Upon graduation, top-performing students may be offered a full-time job opportunity with Duke Energy.
Potential student workers must be nominated by a school instructor, career development counselor or faculty member. A standard nomination form and scholarship form will be provided. Interested students must complete a series of application forms and participate in a formal interview process. Students must enroll at NETC in either the electrical/electronics or industrial technology two-year associate degree program.
Students are eligible for employment for up to four semesters. Students must maintain a 3.2 grade-point average to remain in the program. Students who also receive good on-the-job evaluations are eligible for a $650 per semester scholarship. Upon completion of their degree program, top-performing students may be offered full-time employment with Duke Energy.
Students can work up to 20 hours per week for 11 weeks during each semester and 40 hours per week during the summer. Students rotate through I&C, mechanic and operator positions at the plant every six months. Students have the flexibility to schedule their work around their class time.
Grade point average should be a 3.2 from high school or community college.
Student workers must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
Applicant must clear all background reviews and drug screening.
Applicant must pass standard pre-employment tests.
