| Why should I pursue an Advanced Bookkeeping Certificate and the Certified Bookkeeping credential? |
- To demonstrate your professional capabilities, increase your earnings potential and to gain an edge in the job market.
As a result of high profile corporate scandals and increased financial scrutiny, accountants and businesses are under increased scrutiny when managing financial records. This has created a need for more individuals with bookkeeping skills that are verified by a college degree and better yet, the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB).
Obtaining your Advanced Booking Certificate and becoming a Certified Bookkeeper (CB)gives you the professional credentials to help justify higher earnings. Simply put, the more you can offer to a potential or current employer, the more they will be willing to pay you.
At the same time, holding these credentials will give you an edge in the market place because employers will be more attracted to an applicant or employee with bookkeeping skills that are certified at the highest national standards.

How do I earn the Bookkeeper Certification (CB)? |
-
The
AIPB provides the only national certification for Certified Bookkeepers (CB). The AIPB Certified Bookkeeper credential is the highest national professional standard for bookkeepers.
To earn the right to put CB after your name, you must pass three examinations and sign a written code of ethics. You must also possess at least two years of work experience, which may be completed before or after the examination.
Northeastern Technical College's ABC program is designed to prepare you to successfully complete this process.
As a certified bookkeeper you will be required to earn and register continuing education credits each year.
|
| |
What are the continuing education requirements? |
- To maintain the CB status, 20 credits are needed each year on a 3-year cycle. A mandatory 60 credits must be registered within the 3 year cycle or else the CB title will be revoked. A CB can register 10 credits one year, 20 the next and 30 the next but the AIPB is more more concerned that CBs register continuing education credits every year and meet the mandatory total each cycle.
|
| |
How do I earn continuing education credits to maintain my CB status ? |
-
By attending seminars or taking classes on bookkeeping, payroll, taxes or accounting issues.
AIPB offers several home study courses, several institutions offer online accounting and bookkeeping classes, and credit can be received for attending one or two day seminars (7-16credits). AIPB members can also earn credits by reading the AIPB monthly newsletter and completing quizzes based on newsletter content (1 credit per month/12 per year).
