Program Summary:
Today's world is structured around computers, both in business and in the home. Students who pursue an Associate in Applied Science in Computer Technology (AAS.CPT) degree will learn the most current skills, techniques and systems to advance themselves in the world of computers. Students who graduate this program can pursue jobs in six major computer fields: systems analysts, computer programmers, network specialists, multimedia developers, web masters and computer operators. Advanced certificates allow students to specialize.

Computer programmers write, test and maintain detailed software packages that computer must follow to perform their functions. Programmers break down each step into a mathematical formula in order to write programs, which computers use to function. Programmers also update and modify existing programs.

System analysts oversee the design process for new software or hardware. These professionals examine an organization's computer stystem, determine if its system is operating at its maximum capacity and provide networking assisstance if needed.

Network specialists are responsible for the security and administration of the overall operation of the computing environment. They also are responsible for monitoring systems to make sure that equipment is functioning properly and resources are available when users need them.

Multimedia developers work with computer information systems, graphics and delivery protocols for software. They design web portals for online learning programs, video games and interactive websites.

Web masters/developers combine programming with design to create sites and pages for the Internet.

Other computer operator-related fields include database administrators and technical support specialists.

Program Length:
The Associate in Applied Science in Computer Technology degree requires 66 semester credit hours of instruction. Full-time students can complete either program in four semesters, and evening students, depending on the course enrollment of the student, can complete their studies in five to six semesters.
