Northeastern Technical College (NETC) is currently in the process of submitting proposals to the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education, SC Commission on Higher Education and State Board of Nursing to offer an associate degree in nursing (ADN). The approval of these agencies is required before admission information is finalized. The ADN degree is a two-year program after which graduates must pass a national licensure exam to become a registered nurse (RN).
Can I apply now?
It’s too early to apply for the program because the program is still in the approval process. However, the College is proposing to use an admission point system, as for Practical Nursing. It is highly recommended that students successfully complete CHM 110, BIO 210, CPT 101 and PSY 201 in preparation for admission to the proposed ADN program.
In the meantime, you can apply for the Nurse Preparation Certificate program, the Associate in Science Program or as an undeclared major* to enroll in preliminary classes. Requirements at NETC will be similar to those of other technical/ college associate degree nursing programs.
*Students in an undeclared major are not eligible for federal or state financial aid programs.
When will classes begin?
The earliest possible date
for enrolling students is Fall Term, 2007.
What steps can I take now?
In order to best prepare for eligibility for the ADN program, it would be wise to start taking classes as soon as possible. An academic counselor can help you choose the appropriate classess. You should also follow these steps:
1. Submit your application and fee for admission and
application fee to NETC for Summer Term and schedule the placement test
(or submit SAT/ACT scores). If remediation is needed, students should
enroll now in order to complete prerequisite skills in English, Math
and/or Reading in order to meet ADN admission requirements.
2. Request your high school transcript and
your transcripts from other colleges be sent to NETC
Admissions Office.
3. Submit the
appropriate FAFSA for the semester in which you plan to enroll.
Applications can be filed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. FAFSA on
the Web Worksheets are available in the Office of Student Financial
Assistance and on the information rack in the hallway outside of Student
Services. Applicants should also obtain a PIN number in order to sign
the FAFSA electronically. Filing electronically saves processing
time!
What are the financial aid deadlines
for Summer & Fall 2007?
Students should submit applications for financial aid at least four(4) weeks prior to the start of the semester of enrollment. NETC announces deadlines for admissions and financial aid applications for each semester. By meeting these deadlines, students will know the amount of Pell Grant, Lottery Tuition Assistance or other forms of aid in order to register for classes.
What classes should I take?
The first step to knowing which classes to take is to apply and provide placement information to the Office of Admissions. Your placement information may be SAT or ACT scores, transcripts from other institutions or NETC COMPASS scores. Your scores may indicate placement in developmental studies or in required courses. You will be assigned an advisor who will use your scores to help you select classes. The most beneficial classes for enrollment in nursing programs include: ENG 101, MAT 155 or 110, CHM 110, BIO 210, AHS 102, AHS 107, SPC 205 or their prerequisites. The best track is to enroll in the Nurse Preparation Certificate or the Associate in Science programs, which include these courses and are approved for financial aid purposes.
How much does it cost?
The current cost of tuition is shown on the NETC webpage at www.netc.edu and is subject to change. Financial assistance is
available for eligible applicants who apply on time for Pell Grants,
Lottery Tuition Assistance and other scholarships. Be aware of
deadlines! Those interested in the ADN program may also want to start
saving now. Enrollment in this program requires the purchase of
textbooks (currently not funded by grants or LTA), uniforms, shoes,
watches, stethoscopes, lab supplies, licensure testing,
and other related items.
Can I get financial aid help?
Financial aid staff will answer questions about applications;
however, applicants must bring financial data (such as IRS Federal
Income Tax Returns and W-2 Forms for the applicant and/or their parents,
for those still living at home). Those who apply early enough have the
benefit of a review by a financial aid professional. Contact the
Financial Aid Office at 843-921-6940 or 1-800-921-7399. The FAFSA is
the first step in determining eligibility for Pell Grants and SC Lottery
Tuition Assistance (LTA). Those who qualify for Pell Grant based on their income will use Pell
Grant funds first, and LTA will supplement. Those who are interested in financial
assistance must submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student
Aid) either electronically at www.netc.edu or by paper form.
Applicants should also obtain a PIN number in
order to sign the FAFSA electronically. Filing electronically saves
processing time! It is VERY important tomeet the deadlines for filing .
While I am preparing for the program, what will NETC do to bring this
program to our community? Through a grant from the
Duke Endowment awarded to McLeod-Dillon and NETC, a consultant is now
working with the college to determine the level of demand, the
availability of clinical facilities and other important aspects. The proposal process is well underway with approval expected in 2007 .
Can I talk to someone further about the ADN
program?
Of course! Just contact the Admissions Office at NETC via telephone
at 843 - 921-6933, 1-800-921-7399 or e-mail to admissions@netc.edu.
You may also contact your nearest community campus in Bennettsville,
