Employment:
Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) have many
responsibilities. Typically, they care for ill, injured,
convalescent and disabled persons in hospitals, clinics,
doctors' offices, private homes, nursing homes or
medical care institutions. Generally, they work a
40-hour week, which includes nights, weekends and
holidays on a rotating basis. As a licensed practical
nurse, you will be able to work in hospitals, doctors'
offices and nursing homes throughout South Carolina and
the United States. Additionally, many LPNs continue
their education by becoming a registered nurse (RN).
According the U.S. Department of Labor, overall job prospects are expected to be very good, but job outlook varies by industry. The best job opportunities will occur in nursing care facilities and home healthcare services. Employment of LPNs is expected to grow by 21 percent between 2008 and 2018.
