Dizzy Gillespie Scholarship Fund, Incorporated

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior or junior, planning to attend a four year college or other institution of higher learning.  Also, students enrolled at Northeastern Technical College may apply for this scholarship.  The applicant must demonstrate exemplary qualities of scholarship, citizenship, and service to his/her school, church, and community. The application deadline is March 1st of each year.  Applications received after March 1 will not be considered.  Additional instructions are located on the scholarship application.

McLeod Health Scholarship Fund

McLeod Health wants to assist students in attaining their healthcare career goals. The purpose of the McLeod Health Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to students who have been accepted into an approved program of study in an identified healthcare employment area of need. The scholarships available are for tuition only with amounts varying with respect to the area of study. We are recruiting motivated students whose core values align with those of McLeod to work at one of our eight locations following the completion of their academic program.  

The open application period is March 1– April 30 for internal and external students, with scholarships awarded in the Fall

McLeod Health Scholarship Fund

FBi Construction Scholarship at Eastern Carolina Community Foundation

FBi Construction will provide scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to students entering a course of study in the construction industries field with the goal of finding employment in a career allied with the construction industry.  Some of the eligible career choices include construction management, civil engineering, architecture and accounting.  The following students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship:

  • Graduating high school seniors
  • Returning post-secondary students at a technical school, college or university
  • Someone continuing education after time spent in the workforce

Qualifications:

  • Reside in one of the following counties:  Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown. Horry, Marion, Marlboro, or Williamsburg.
  • Be accepted at an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Desire to pursue a degree or professional certificate in a construction related industry.
  • Demonstrate financial need.  The applicant's FAFSA score is required.
  • GPA must be a 2.0 or better.

Graham Memorial Fund

The Graham Memorial Fund was created in 1954.  Mrs. Ella Stanton bequeathed a vast majority of her personal property to a "fund" and devoted the annual income thereof to charitable purposes such as providing for the education of needy and deserving boys and girls of Marlboro County. 

Eligibility criteria includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Must be a resident of Marlboro County
  • Must be a high school graduate

Your completed application must be mailed to the Fund Administrative Committee before May 31st of each year.  Also, you must provide at least the following information with your application:

  • Financial circumstances of the student and his/her immediate family
  • High school transcript showing past academic performance
  • Two references

Applicants will be notified by letter of the decision.

George Rogers Foundation of the Carolinas, Inc. Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a resident of North or South Carolina
  • Must be a high school senior accepted to a post-secondary institution as a full-time or part-time student for fall or already in college
  • Must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of  at least a 2.5
  • Must provide a copy of official high school transcript with application
  • Must provide college registration and admission documentation
  • Must submit at least one (1) letter of recommendation from your high school/college faculty or counselor, employer or church leader.

Government Finance Officers Association Scholarship

The Government Finance Officers Association of South Carolina offers the following scholarships:

  • Willa Bellamy Scholarship - $1500 - Must attend a public four-year college or university.
  • The Founding Fathers Scholarship - $1000 - Must attend a public two-year college or university.
  • Katherine Zook Certification Program Scholarship - Must be a GFOASC member seeking to further his/her professional development by taking part in the Government Finance Officers Certification Program.

WIRE Opportunity Scholarship

The Wire Jenny Ballard Opportunity Scholarship is awarded to a woman who may not have been able to attend college when she graduated high school, but now wants to further her education.  The $2500 scholarship is awarded annually by WIRE, a community service organization affiliated with electric co-ops in South Carolina, including Lynches River Electric Cooperative.  WIRE (Women Involved in Rural Electrification) awards the scholarship based on financial need and personal goals.  Applicants must:

  • Be a member of a South Carolina electric co-op
  • Have graduated from high school or earned her GED at least 10 years ago
  • Be accepted into an accredited S.C. college or university
  • Demonstrate financial need and personal goals

Women who have previously earned a bachelor's degree are not eligible.  However, applicants may have previously earned a two-year degree or some college credits.  The scholarship will be paid jointly to the winner and her college of choice.  Applications are available at Lynches River Electric Cooperative. The deadline to apply is June 2nd of each year. 

FUMC Scholarships

The First United Methodist Church annually awards eight scholarships to local high school seniors or graduates enrolled in accredited two or four year schools.The award amounts range in value from $200 to $1500.  The application process must be completed by April 15th of each year.  For additional information and scholarship application, visit First United Methodist's website at www.cherawfirstumc.org and click the resources tab.

A & F Scholarships

Abbott & Fenner offers a scholarship to help those who have the desire and ambition to succeed.  The A & F scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution.  For additional information, visit Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants website at www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm.

South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation

Financial assistance is available for South Carolina residents who have physical or mental disabilities that limit vocational opportunities. Award amounts are based on financial need and are awarded by the Vocational Rehabilitation Center. Apply at the nearest Vocational Rehabilitation Office in Bennettsville, Dillon or Lancaster.

Junior Charity League of Marlboro County

This scholarship is awarded by Junior Charity League (JCL) of Marlboro County.  It is awarded to a female between the ages of 17-23 who has a permanent Marlboro County residence and is currently enrolled or will be enrolled in a college/university.  The scholarship is $500 and the applicant must reapply every year.  The completed application is due by Monday, March 31st of each year.  Applications are to be mailed to Junior Charity League of Marlboro County Scholarship.  The mailing address is located on the application.

Giva Corporate Student Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded semi-annually by Giva Inc., a technology company located in Silicon Valley.  All students currently attending a college/university  and enrolled in a degree program are encouraged to apply.  This scholarship is $1,000.  All eligible students will be required to write an essay.  The deadline date to apply is June 1st or December 1st of each year. Etta Gray Memorial Scholarship

The Hipp family, in honor of the beloved Etta Gray, has established a scholarship program to assist students who have permanent residence in Upstate South Carolina and are pursuing a technical certification such as Computer Technology, Information Systems, Information Technology, Networking, and PC Programming.  Eligibility requirements include the following:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Students must have permanent residence in Upstate South Carolina.
  • Students must be enrolled in an institution that offers technical certification in Upstate South Carolina.
  • Students must provide validation of progress toward completion of the certificate.
  • Students must have an unmet financial need verified by their institution's financial aid officer.
  • Candidates must have at least a 2.5 GPA and submit an autobiographical essay for full consideration

The Etta Gray Memorial Scholarship Program provides annual scholarships of up to $5,000 per scholarship, based on need, to assist students attending target technical colleges in Upstate South Carolina. Students who qualify for the Etta Gray Memorial Scholarship must attend Northeastern Technical College, Tri-County Technical College, Greenville Technical College, York Technical College, or Spartanburg Methodist College.  The deadline to apply for the Etta Gray Memorial Scholarship is October 31st of each year.  Visit the UNCF's website for additional information and/or to apply.

Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund

The Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund was designed to assist low income women ages 35 or older.  Review the eligibility requirements and selection factors below:

  3. A U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States
  4. Pursuing a technical or vocational education, an associate's degree, or a first bachelor's degree
  5. Enrolled in, or accepted to, a regionally or ACICS accredited school

LaShandra Stewart Douglas Working Mothers Scholarship

The LaShandra Stewart Douglas Working Mother Scholarship provides scholarship assistance towards a college student's future goals.  It is named in honor of LaShandra Stewart Douglas who is a former graduate of Northeastern Technical College.  The deadline to apply for this scholarship is October 31st of each year.  The program guidelines and priorities are as follows:

  • The recipients must be a mother, age 22 or older, currently employed, and a resident of Marlboro or Chesterfield County.
  • The recipients must have proof of enrollment in a higher education institution (two year or four year) seeking a degree or certification.
  • The recipients must provide proof of volunteer work (minimum 40 hours) within their community (i.e. church, recreation center, after school programs, etc.)
  • The recipients must write an essay (minimum 250 - maximum 500 words) explaining the importance of giving back to the community and how their anticipated degree/certification will assist in those efforts.
  • Submissions must be received no later than October 31st of each year.
  • The winning recipient and runner up will be chosen from those that meet all qualifications.
  • Late applications will not be accepted.

Shawn Carter (Jay-Z) Scholarship Foundation

The Shawn Carter Foundation's grant provides financial support to high school as well as undergraduate students entering college for the first time.  The purpose of the grant is to increase college access and success for motivated yet under-served students.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school seniors, students with GED diplomas, undergraduate (2 year or 4 year) college students, and students at vocational or trade schools
  • US citizen or Permanent Resident
  • 25 years old or younger
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA

Point Foundation Community College Scholarship

The Point Community College Program inspires LGBTQ community college students to fulfill their ambitions of attending a four-year college or university.  The scholarship application opens on March 1st.  The deadline to submit your application is April 30th.

What you will receive:

  • $3,700 financial award
  • Access to Point Foundation network of LGBTQ scholars and alumni
  • Opportunity to attend the Point Community College Transfer Symposium in Los Angeles

To Be Eligible:

  • Students must be enrolled in their final year at an accredited community college in the U.S. in the fall of 2017 for the full academic year.
  • Students must be "out" as a person who identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community.
  • Students must submit an application online.  The application opens on March 1st of each year.

Wells Fargo - Veterans Scholarship Program

Wells Fargo offers a scholarship to help veterans cover unmet financial need after military benefits and other grants and scholarships have been utilized.  Scholarships are awarded up to $7,000 per year and it is renewable. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be an honorably discharged veteran of the United States military, or the spouse of a disabled veteran.
  • Be a high school or GED graduate, or a student currently enrolled in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent.

Wells Fargo - Veterans Emergency Grant Program

Through the Wells Fargo Emergency Grant Program:

  • Immediate, small grants are available to eligible veterans who are enrolled in postsecondary education and experience unexpected financial difficulities that might cause them to drop out of school.
  • Grants are available for a one-time distribution up to $1,000 based ib tge cost of the emergency need.
  • Grants are available on an ongoing basis while funds are available.

Huggable Supermom Scholarship

Bold.org is awarding $2,000 in scholarship funding to undergraduate and graduate students whose lives have been impacted by single moms, or who are single moms themselves.  The Huggable Supermom Scholarship was created to make it a little easier for single moms and their loved ones.
