Elizabeth Dutton is an English instructor at NETC, but she is also a published author, organic gardener, crazy dog lady, voracious reader, music obsessive and trivia geek. She enjoys hearing the unique and fascinating ideas of her students and is humbled to have the opportunity to contribute to their education. She strives to provide a positive, supportive environment for her students and holds them to a high yet achievable standard.
Ms. Dutton graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Davis. She earned a Master of Philosophy in creative writing from the University of Glasgow. She has served as an adjunct assistant lecturer at Coker College and an adjunct English instructor at NETC. She performed administrative work with the Alameda County Board of Supervisors in Oakland, Calif., and served as special projects manager at Mother Jones Magazine in San Francisco. She also worked as a newspaper reporter for the Las Vegas Sun.
In her classes, Ms. Dutton emphasizes critical thinking skills, careful attention to grammar, appreciation for the art of the written word, and active participation in both education and global citizenship.
