CHERAW HIGH SCHOOL is a comprehensive public high school in Chesterfield County School District. It houses students in grades 9-12 with a student population of approximately 870. As a High Schools That Work site, Cheraw High stresses high academic standards based on 10 key practices, including high expectations for students, extra help, and out-of-classroom learning. Cheraw High School recently underwent the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence assessment where stakeholders assessed the school's performance which led to improvement initiatives.
Curriculum offerings in college prep, honors, AP, dual credit, and Career and Technology Education (CATE) allow students to select units required for graduation. Students are urged to select the highest level of academic course work they can handle successfully and to select CATE courses related to career goals. With passage of the Education and Economic Development Act, Personal Pathways to Success allows students to make a smooth and successful transition from middle school to high school to post secondary education and then to the 21st century workforce. Students at Long Middle School work with parents, counselors, and teachers to begin developing an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) to include academic as well as career-related courses and goals.
