CHESTERFIELD HIGH SCHOOL is a comprehensive public high school in Chesterfield County School District. It houses students in grades 9-12 with a student population of approximately 550. As a High Schools That Work site, Chesterfield High stresses high academic standards based on 10 key practices, including high expectations for students, extra help, and out-of-classroom learning. Our accomplishments include an absolute rating of Excellent for 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 and a Palmetto Silver Award 2002-2003. We were a Palmetto Gold Award recipient for 2001-2002, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, and 2006-2007. We also received the Gold Implementation Award for highest implementation of the High Schools That Work school improvement model and having mean scores at or above the HSTW performance goals in two or more subject areas.
Curriculum offerings in college prep, honors, AP, dual credit, and Career and Technology Education (CATE) allow students to select units required for graduation. Students are urged to select the highest level of academic course work they can handle successfully and to select CATE courses related to career goals. With passage of the Education and Economic Development Act, Personal Pathways to Success allows students to make a smooth and successful transition from middle school to high school to post secondary education and then to the 21st century workforce. Students at Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School work with parents, counselors, and teachers to begin developing an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) to include academic as well as career-related courses and goals.
