McBee High School

McBEE HIGH SCHOOL is a comprehensive public high school in Chesterfield County School District. It houses students in grades 7-12 with a student population of approximately 467. As a High Schools That Work and Making Middle Grades Work site, McBee High stresses high academic standards based on 10 key practices, including high expectations for students, extra help, and out-of-classroom learning.

Curriculum offerings in college prep, honors, AP, dual credit, and Career and Technology Education (CATE) allow students to select units required for graduation. Students are urged to select the highest level of academic course work they can handle successfully and to select CATE courses related to career goals. With passage of the Education and Economic Development Act, Personal Pathways to Success allows students to make a smooth and successful transition from middle school to high school to post secondary education and then to the 21st century workforce.

Students in the eighth grade at McBee High School select a career cluster that relates to their courses of study and career goal. A Technology Initiative provided each seventh grade student with a laptop. The seventh grade was also involved in a cooperative learning exercise called Project-Based Learning. We continue to explore the realm of technology by adding thirteen Promethean Boards in various subject area classrooms and hope to expand this effort to even more classrooms in the coming year.
