Incident Investigation Update

UPDATE: JUNE 4, 2022

During the past month, NETC Administration and IT staff have been working to address technical issues which caused temporary disruption to the NETC network.

As part of this process, NETC engaged an expert forensic firm to assess the nature and scope of these issues. Based upon the investigation, it was determined that NETC suffered a data security incident. It was further determined that a third party accessed and exfiltrated certain archived data located on a single NETC server.

NETC worked diligently to determine what data was impacted by this incident, and the identity and addresses of all affected individuals. NETC has now completed this review, and on Friday, June 3, 2022, will be mailing notification letters to all individuals whose sensitive personal information was present in the impacted data. These notification letters will provide more details about the event and include an offer of credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services at no cost.

NETC has also established an Incident Call Center to assist any members of our community who desire further information. You can reach the Incident Call Center at 1-855-503-3374. The Incident Call Center will be open beginning Friday, May 27, 2022, and will remain open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

In the meantime, out of an abundance of caution, we ask that you be hyper cyber-vigilant. In the current environment, cybercriminals may engage in "phishing" campaigns by sending emails, texts, or even make calls designed to trick you into visiting malicious sites or downloading malware. Members of the NETC community should remain on alert for suspicious communications or phone calls. Should you experience any of the above, please disregard and report to the Incident Call Center immediately at 1-855-503-3374.

NETC has informed local law enforcement and the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division regarding this incident and has pledged its full support and cooperation to any such investigation.

We thank you for your patience and regret any inconvenience this incident may have caused.
