NETC Recognizes Achievements, Contributions during Annual Honors Program

HONORS NIGHT Northeastern Technical College SGA President Joyce Love presents Dean of Continuing Education Sherrie Chapman with the Outstanding Contributor to Technical Education Award.

HONORS NIGHT: Northeastern Technical College SGA President Joyce Love presents Dean of Continuing Education Sherrie Chapman with the Outstanding Contributor to Technical Education Award.

Northeastern Technical College recognized high achieving students and an outstanding contributor to technical education during the Honors Program ceremony on April 25.

The college recognized students who had made the President's List for the spring, summer and fall semesters. Students were also honored for outstanding academic achievement in arts and sciences, computer technology, technology, and business degree pathways.

This year, the Outstanding Contributor to Technical Education Award was presented to Sherrie Chapman, one of NETC's own staff members deserving of this recognition. Chapman serves as the dean of Continuing Education and has worked for NETC in various roles for nearly 32 years.

"This year, we are recognizing a special contributor at NETC," said Dr. Ron Bartley, college president. "Often, this award goes to an individual or organization outside our campus. However, occasionally one of our own rises to the level of recognition for the award. Our recognition this year goes to a person who has great energy and a tremendous amount of respect, not only at NETC, but across our technical college system in South Carolina."

Last year, Chapman was awarded the prestigious A. Wade Martin award that recognizes a person who has demonstrated dedication to serving the mission of technical colleges across the state.

"As I travel around our service region and talk to industry and economic development officials about what we can do to meet their needs, most of the leaders say 'Just turn Sherrie Chapman loose with it. She'll get it done,'" Bartley said.

Chapman currently serves as president of the Cheraw Rotary Club, and she serves on the board of Faith Christian School.

The Outstanding Contributor to Technical Education Award has been presented annually since 1982 by the NETC Student Government Association to an individual, business or organization that has made unique and valuable contributions to the college. Past recipients have included industries, healthcare providers, community supporters, and NETC staff and faculty members.

Other honorees during the April 25 ceremony were students inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of community and technical colleges, and officers and senators serving in the college's Student Government Association.
