Two Northeastern Technical College students were recently named to the Phi Theta Kappa South Carolina All-State Academic Team. Jerry Stafford Jr. of Chesterfield and Tony Lee of Cheraw are among the state's highest achieving college students who will be recognized at a ceremony being held March 31 at the SC State House.

Jerry Stafford is in the Applied Technology program and will receive his Associate in Industrial Electronics, his Associate in Electro-Mechanical, and a number of certifications this summer. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the National Technical Honor Society. He is employed by Arauco-USA (formerly Flakeboard) as an Electrical Instrumentation Technician. Jerry was a member of the SC Army National Guard for 13 years, serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom II and Operation Jump Start "Palmetto Thunder."
Tony Lee is currently in the Associate in Applied Science in Electronics program at NETC and plans to graduate in the fall. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the National Technical Honor Society. Tony is employed by Shaeffler Group USA, as a mechatronics technician, and he's a graduate of the Shaeffler Academy Leadership Training program. Tony is a veteran of the US Army, who received a commendation medal during combat operations in Iraq.
Technical college presidents name students to the South Carolina All-State Academic Team on the basis of academic performance, leadership and service to their college and local communities. Students on the All-State Academic team will participate in the annual All-USA Academic Team competition in April, sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.
"We at NETC are proud of Jerry and Tony for their accomplishments here," said Dr. Ron Bartley, president of NETC. "As adult students who returned to college and served our country, they are great role models for current and future students."

Phi Theta Kappa was founded in 1918 to emphasize and recognize academic excellence in two-year colleges. Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.5 million members in the United States, U.S. territories, Canada and Germany.
