New apprenticeship program for medical assistants

Apprentice program recognized

Chesterfield General Hospital and Marlboro Park Hospital were recently recognized by Apprenticeship CarolinaTM and the US Department of Labor as a "registered" employer-sponsored job related educational apprenticeship program for their medical assistants. This recognition shows an employer's commitment to developing a highly skilled employee that will meet nationally accepted training standards.

The medical assistant program has now been added to the many other apprenticeship programs managed by Northeastern Technical College's Department of Continuing Education, which puts students in a "work as you learn" environment while helping them develop the necessary skill sets to become nationally certified.

"We are pleased to partner with both of the hospitals for this apprenticeship program," said Sherrie Chapman, Dean of Continuing Education at NETC. "There is an increasing demand for high skilled workers in the allied health field, as well as in the field of manufacturing. Apprenticeship programs such as this are making a huge impact in the development of a skilled local workforce."

The NETC Department of Continuing Education and Apprenticeship CarolinaTM currently have apprenticeship programs with a number of local industries including Conbracco, INA USA, and Palmetto Brick.

Apprenticeship CarolinaTM is a division of the South Carolina Technical College System which enables employers to have access to information and technical assistance to create Department of Labor approved registered apprenticeship programs.
