When Every Second Counts: NETC Nursing Seniors Tackle Code Blue Simulations

For the senior students in Northeastern Technical College's Associate Degree in Nursing program, the classroom is only part of the education. The real learning happens when the alarm sounds, the manikin's vitals drop, and every decision made in the next few minutes could mean the difference between life and death.

That is the world of the Code Blue simulation, and NETC's ADN seniors are rising to meet it.

Code Blue simulations are immersive, high-stakes training exercises designed to replicate the chaos and urgency of an unexpected cardiac or respiratory arrest. Students are thrust into realistic emergency scenarios where they must perform CPR, operate a defibrillator, communicate with their team, and make critical clinical decisions, all under pressure and all in real time.

What makes these exercises so powerful is the technology and methodology behind them. Using high-fidelity manikins that mimic human physiological responses, students experience a level of realism that traditional classroom instruction simply cannot provide. The scenarios do not end when the simulation does. Immediate debriefing sessions allow students and instructors to review every decision, identify strengths, and address areas for improvement while the experience is still fresh.
