Courses for Seniors Offered at NETC

Beginning in February, Northeastern Technical College will offer courses for seniors who are interested in joining discussion groups, learning a new skill, or making new friends while learning a new skill or hobby.

Courses are designed for senior citizens 55 years of age or over and are offered by the college’s division of continuing education.  Most classes are one day a week and range in price from free to $45.

The free classes include open discussion courses on current events and books selected by the course participants.   A Current Event class starts on February 1 and the Book of the Month Club starts on February 2. 

Other course offerings include; Discovering Antiquing, The History of Major Wars, How to Shop and Sell on EBay, Coaching the Mature Driver and Computer Basics for Seniors.

All courses will be held on Northeastern Technical College’s campus in Cheraw.

Clifton and Jenny Robbins, of Ruby, recently enjoyed taking Spanish for Seniors and the Current Events class. 

“We enjoyed taking both courses,” said Robbins.  “Especially because it got us out and gave us something interesting to do.”  Robbins said he and his wife also enjoyed the comradery of learning with people their own age.

“We enjoyed talking back and forth and the learning process with people our age,” he said. “And we really enjoyed meeting new people.”

Robbins is especially interested in taking the How to Buy and Sell on EBay course that will be offered this semester.  While he has some experience with EBay, he hopes this class can get him reconditioned to sell handmade wood crafts and Native American crafts he and his wife have been producing since 1993.
