Ten students recently completed the requirements of the Advanced Maintenance Technician Certificate at Northeastern Technical College. These students, who are employees at Schaeffler Group USA, Inc. plants in Cheraw, Fort Mill and Spartanburg, participated in classes and labs for 15 weeks.
The students completed a total of 600 hours in various areas of industrial technology including math, physics, blueprint reading, safety, measuring instruments, hydraulics and pneumatics, metallurgy and electronic devices. Many other areas related to plant maintenance were also included. In addition, students receive 33 hours of college credits toward an associate degree in industrial technology.
“This program enables us to enhance the skills of the local workforce giving our employees the extra training they need to advance in the workplace,” said Karen Craig, who coordinates the Advanced Maintenance Technical program for Schaeffler Group USA, Inc. “The company benefits as well because the graduates of this program receive formalized training on industrial technology that is used universally.” |

The students spent time in both classrooms and labs, applying theories to “hands-on” activities while also maintaining their status as full time employees with Schaeffler Group USA, Inc.
