Dr. Ron Bartley Named President of Northeastern Technical College

Dr. Ron Bartley has been named president of Northeastern Technical College.  He succeeds Dr. James C. Williamson, who retired last month to enter private business.

Bartley comes to Northeastern Technical College from West Virginia State Community and Technical College in Institute, W. Va., where he has served as interim president since 2006, having previously been vice president of academic affairs. 

Bartley has also held several teaching and leadership positions at Southwest Virginia Community College, and has also been a math teacher and an assistant high school principal.  He holds a Doctor of Education degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University.   

He currently serves on a number of Chamber of Commerce boards in the Charleston, W. Va. area.  He has organized efforts to promote economic development and tourism in West Virginia and has been a leader in promoting technology growth in southwest Virginia, where he served as an officer in the Southwestern Virginia Technology Council and directed electronic village efforts for most of that state. 

Bartley also served on a team that recruits businesses and industries into the Southwest Virginia Community College service area.

He and his wife, Rita, have two children and one grandson.  Their son teaches mathematics at Jefferson Community College in Louisville, Kentucky while their daughter is a nurse in Lebanon, Virginia.  The couple will be relocating to the Cheraw area in late February.

Herbert W. Watts, chairman of the NETC Board of Trustees, announced Dr. Bartley’s appointment this week. 

“All of us on the Board of Trustees are very pleased that Dr. Ron Bartley has accepted the position of president of Northeastern Technical College,” Watts stated.  “He is very well-qualified, and his extensive experience in technical and community college administration will be a major asset as he leads NETC forward.   We look forward to welcoming him to the college and to our community.”       

Bartley expressed his excitement about joining the NETC family. 

“Northeastern has a talented faculty and staff that will work to increase opportunities for citizens of the college service region,” Bartley stated.  “I am excited at the possibility of reaching out to more of our local citizens and to explore new programs for training the region’s workforce.  In my first few weeks at the college, I will be devoting time to meeting with faculty, staff, and students as well as establishing contacts within the NETC community.”

Bartley will begin his duties at NETC on March 3.
