NETC Employees Earn USC Leadership Certificate

Lisa Johnson (left), of Chesterfield, and Cathy Pelfrey (right), of Cheraw, recently earned graduate certificates in higher education leadership from the University of South Carolina.  The certificate is an academic credential approved by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education to advance the knowledge and competencies of professionals in the South Carolina Technical College System.

The certificate is a two-year (six-semester) program which requires participants to take classes in the areas of higher education including finance, educational assessment, college teaching, legal affairs and leadership.  Johnson and Pelfrey were specifically selected by Northeastern Technical College administrators to participate in the certificate program and started their classes together in January of 2006.

They received their certificates on December 7 of last year and represent the second pair of employees from Northeastern Technical College that has completed the program.  Diane Dyches, of Patrick, dean of arts and science, and Leron Peterkin, of Bennettsville, coordinator of career development and placement, were the first to complete the program in December of 2005.

Pelfrey is an administrative assistant in the president’s office while Johnson is a faculty member in the business and technologies division of the college.
