Pictured are students from Wallace Middle School visiting one of the College’s science labs.  Marie Mackey, of Bennettsville and a faculty member in the arts and sciences division of the college, is showing students a replica of a clogged artery used in the classroom to study coronary artery disease.  Mackey also answered questions about the types of classes students can take at Northeastern Technical College to prepare for careers in forensic science, nursing, biological technology and DNA analysis.

Eighth Grade Students Visit NETC

Students from several middle schools in Chesterfield and Marlboro Counties recently visited the Cheraw campus of Northeastern Technical College as part of the Higher Education Awareness Program (HEAP).

The program was created in partnership with South Carolina public schools, public and private institutions of higher education and the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

“It is designed to increase awareness among middle school students on what it takes to go to college,” said Dr. Jerry Robertson, vice president for student services.  “It is also an opportunity to see that a college education is close by and affordable.”

During their visit, students toured the campus and learned about the variety of academic and career pathways available at the college.  They also learned about the wealth of student services available including the Career Center, Success Center, Writing Lab, Student Support Services, Financial Aid and Admissions.

Students from Marlboro and Chesterfield County middles schools including New Heights Middle School, Blenheim Middle School, McColl Middle School and Wallace Middle School and Clio Middle School visited the college.
