Students Attend Small Business Workshop

Students at Northeastern Technical College recently participated in a free Small Business Development workshop sponsored by the college’s Single Parent Homemaker & Nontraditional Education Training (SPH&NET) program and the division of continuing education.  The workshop was made possible through Perkins Grant funding

Mike Bell, area manager for the Small Business Development Centers of South Carolina, facilitated the workshop and discussed business plan development, financing, managing, promoting and insuring small businesses.  Students attending the workshop received a new business starter kit.

“Our students have business ideas as well as the entrepreneurial spirit,” said Mary K. Newton, dean of students at the college who oversees the SPH&NET program.  “So
we offered this workshop to make them aware of the business start up services that
are out there for them to access.”

The college’s division of continuing education plans to offer more courses in small business management in the future.  An entire series on “Starting Your Own Business” and a longer version of the “e-Commerce for Small Businesses” are scheduled for the Fall 2008 semester.

For more information call the division of continuing education at 843-921-6923.
