Tuition Increase and Scheduling Change Planned at NETC

Due to increasing operation costs and decreasing state allocations the Northeastern Technical College Board of Trustees recently voted to increase tuition.  Full-time tuition for students from Chesterfield, Marlboro and Dillon counties will be raised to $1620 per semester, or $135 per semester hour.  Out-of- county students will pay $1728 per semester, or $144 per semester hour, while out-of-state students will pay $2928 per semester, or $244 per semester hour.

“We are committed to maintaining the high level of student service and personal attention we provide to our students, but because of sharply increased operating costs and decreasing state allocations, the board voted to raise tuition,” said Dr. Ron Bartley, president of Northeastern Technical College.  “Serving our students remains our first concern and we are looking in other areas to decrease our student’s out-of-pocket expenses.”

One such area is in course scheduling.  Beginning in the Fall semester, the college will offer a four-day class schedule.  Classes will be held on Monday through Thursday, with Friday set aside for faculty and staff work days.  The college will remain open and access to services will continue to be available on Friday.

“The main reason for the scheduling change is an attempt to give our students some relief from the rising cost of attending college,” said Dr. Ron Bartley, president of Northeastern Technical College.  “This has the potential to help students realize a 20 percent savings in travel expenses as well as possible savings in child care.”

Bartley said the college is also looking into other ways to pass savings on to NETC students such as weekend college, car-pooling and other modes of transportation.  The college also recently began a pilot study with Progress Energy to identify areas for energy cost reduction in order to counter rising operational cost.

The new course schedule and tuition rates will go into effect with Fall semester which starts on August 20.  The deadline for admission applications is August 4 and open registration is August 18.  The course schedule for Fall semester is available by visiting the Course Schedule page.
