Refrigeration Class Offered at NETC: EPA Certification Option Available
A class to help homeowners and business owners ensure their heating, ventilating and air condition (HVAC) systems are operating properly will be offered this fall semester at Northeastern Technical College.
ACR 108, Refrigeration Fundamentals, will meet Thursday nights from 6:00 – 8:45 pm at NETC Cheraw. Registration for this class is open through August 30.
Currently enrolled students in any technology or general technology programs can also use this course as an elective.
The course is an introduction to HVAC fundamentals and will help students to understand the basic operation and maintenance of systems through classroom discussion and hands on training. The course will also offer students the option to take the EPA Refrigerant exam, a professional certificate which allows HVAC professionals to purchase, use and sale refrigerants.
John Hill, of Chesterfield, will be the instructor. He has 23 years of teaching experience in the Electro-Mechanical Technology program at Chesterfield High Schooland has also owned and operated an HVAC maintenance, installation and repair company.
“This course is great for any do-it-yourselfers who want to obtain a good working knowledge of trouble shooting and repair to residential type equipment,” said Hill. “It’s also great for anyone who wants or needs their EPA Refrigerant Certification.”
The EPA Refrigerant Certification is required for any HVAC professionals to service building air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Any students seeking this certification can purchase the test for $65 and Hill will administer the exam at the end of the semester.
“This component of the course is especially beneficial to industry because they can use this course to train and certify their maintenance personal to service their HVAC systems,” Hill explained.
The course will be offered at the college’s main campus in Cheraw on Thursday nights from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
