Chesterfield High School students gathered in the Career Center as part of their recent visit to the campus of Northeastern Technical College.  They learned about career pathways at the college and then participated in a job shadow in their areas of interest.
Students from area high schools visited Northeastern Technical College this semester to learn about pursing a college education and to participate in a morning of job shadowing.

More than 700 high school seniors from Marlboro and Chesterfield county visited campus to participate in Future Focus, a seven year partnership program between the college and the county school districts.  The program was created to help high school students prepare for a college education.

While on campus, students learned about application procedures and deadlines, options for financial aid, and the variety of academic, career training and transfer pathways available at NETC.  Transfer pathways are designed to help students transfer to four year universities from Northeastern Technical College.

Students also took a tour of the campus and had the chance to hear from a panel of current NETC students who responded to questions about life as a college student.

Chesterfield High School students were also on campus this semester to participate in a job shadowing program.   After a brief introduction to the college and its programs and services, each student followed a faulty or staff member to learn about specific academic areas of the college and what types of employment opportunities are possible with the respective degrees.

Students shadowed instructors and administrators in the engineering graphics, electronics, nursing, computer technology, business and accounting areas.

Each group of students also learned about taking college classes while still in high school through the dual enrollment, dual credit and Technical Advanced Placement (TAP) programs.  Each program allows high school students to take college credit courses in order to get a head start on a college education, to save money on college tuition and to earn college credit for high school courses.

Spring semester classes start January 9.  The admission application deadline for spring semester is December 13.  Open registration is January 7 and all students must be prepared to pay all fees associated with enrollment at that time.  For more information visit www.netc.edu and click on “Admissions” or call 843-921-6933.  More information about dual enrollment, dual credit and TAP is also available by calling Admissions or inquiring to high school guidance counselors.
