Power Plant Technology Certificate Program Offered Online by NETC

Northeastern Technical College is offering a new certificate program designed to prepare students for employment as an entry level power plant operator.  The first course in the certificate program will begin in May.

“Energy production and distribution is a growth industry in South Carolina,” said Dr. Ron Bartley, president of Northeastern Technical College.  “This program can help citizens from our service area acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their employability in this high skill, high wage industry.”

The college’s division of continuing education will offer Power Plant Technology Certificate program online.  Students will attend class, interact with their instructor, receive, complete and submit course assignments using computer mediated communication. Students who do not have internet access, or access to a computer, may use college computers during normal college and computer lab operation hours.

“There are five power plants within the commuting distance of citizens in our service region and we’ve heard from members of our Power Technology Advisory Board that there will be a need for qualified employees, because of retirements and expansion plans, to staff and operate these facilities,” said Bartley.

The first course, Power Plant Fundamentals, will begin in May.  Eight additional courses will be required to complete the program and student must pass the Power Plant Operator Selection Test (POSS).

Total cost of the program is $3,159 or, $351 per course, and is WIA approved. For more information, or to sign up for the Power Plant Fundamentals class, call Northeastern Technical College at 1-800-921-7399 and choose option 4 for Continuing Education.
