NETC Student Receives State Recognition in Columbia

Tametrice Merriman of Cheraw recently traveled to the South Carolina Statehouse in Columbia where she received recognition for her performance as a student at Northeastern Technical College.

Merriman, along with twenty two students from other technical colleges across the state, was recognized by the South Carolina Technical College System (SCTCS) during a ceremony held in the rotunda of the Statehouse.  More than 200 people including members of the South Carolina Senate, House of Representatives, technical college presidents, leaders of the technical college system, fellow students, friends, and family were in attendance.

Merriman was selected for this honor by Dr. Ron Bartley, President of Northeastern Technical College, on the basis of her academic performance, leadership accomplishments, and service to her college and local community.

Merriman was also appointed to represent South Carolina on the All State Academic Team in Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of community and technical colleges.  In addition, Merriman and her fellow honorees will participate in the annual All-USA Academic Team competition, which is an annual competition sponsored by the USA Today, the American Association of Community Colleges, and Phi Theta Kappa.  Winners will be featured in an April edition of the USA Today.
Marriman is currently enrolled in NETC’s associate in science degree pathway.  She is actively involved with NETC Admissions as a work-study employee, HOSPICE of Chesterfield County as a volunteer, and the Student Government Association.  She is also on the Dean’s List at the college.
