Kirby Supports NETC Foundation
Dr. John M. Kirby Jr.(left), superintendent of the Dillon County School District 3 in Latta, recently made the final installment of a $30,000 gift to the Northeastern Technical College Foundation. The final payment, delivered to Dr. Ron Bartley (right), president of Northeastern Technical College, was presented at the college's satellite campus in
Dillon.
"Someone helped me as I was pursuing my education so I'm doing what I can to help someone else," said Kirby who holds a doctorate in Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Kirby graduated from Mullins High School, earned an Associate of Science Degree from The University of South Carolina, and Bachelor of Science and Master of Elementary Education Degrees from Francis Marion University.
Kirby was a teacher, coach and administrator in the Mullins School District and a principal of Latta High School before becoming superintendent of the Dillon County School District 3.
The Dr. John Kirby Scholarship at Northeastern Technical College is awarded to a Latta High School graduate or an adult student from the Latta community to assist in the pursuit of a college degree. The award can be used either to pay tuition or to help defray the cost associated with attending college.
"Dr. Kirby's gift is a testimony of his dedication to our students and the college," said Bartley. "We are honored to have him on our Foundation Board and we look forward to the positive impact his commitment will continue to have on the students selected for this award."
