NETC and Coker College Announce Bridge Program

Northeastern Technical College (NETC) and Coker College have formed a partnership to make it easier for NETC students to pursue their pathway to a bachelor’s degree by transferring to Coker.

The NETC to Coker Bridge Program is designed for students from Chesterfield, Marlboro and Dillon counties who apply to Coker but do not meet freshman admission criteria there.  These students would be referred to NETC to begin their college education.  Students who apply to NETC and declare intent to transfer to Coker will also be offered the opportunity to participate.

NETC President Ron Bartley and Coker President James Dawson recently announced the program, which will take effect fall 2008.

“Partnering with Northeastern Technical College offers students in the Pee Dee region another option to purse a baccalaureate degree and this partnership allows us to pool our resources to answer this demand” said Dawson.  “We look forward to working with Northeastern Technical College and their students who will become part of Coker College”.

Students wishing to participate in the program must submit an information form to NETC or the Coker admissions office.  Once participants are identified, each college will forward a copy of the registration form to the partner’s admissions office for system input and tracking.

In order to complete the NETC to Coker Bridge Program and qualify for transfer to Coker, students must:

  • Submit an application for undergraduate admission at least two months prior to transfer semester
  • Submit a NETC to Coker Bridge Program Information Form to the NETC Admissions Office at the time of enrollment at NETC or upon decision to transfer to Coker College
  • Complete at least 30 transferable credit hours with a 2.0 collegiate GPA at NETC
  • Complete all developmental level coursework as identified by NETC

“We thank Dr. Dawson and his team at Coker College for being so committed to helping us create additional opportunities for our students to pursue pathways to a bachelor’s degree,” said NETC President Bartley.  “We are pleased to establish this partnership and we hope that Northeastern Technical College students, and any student in our area with college dreams, will take advantage of this tremendous opportunity.”

Coker College will also award scholarships to all participants who earn at last 30 transferable credit hours with at least a 2.0 cumulative transfer grade point average. The amount of the award is $1000 and may be renewed for a maximum of three years provided the student earns at least 30 credit hours annually and maintains no less than a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.  Application fees to Coker College will also be waived for NETC to Coker Bridge Program applicants.
