NETC Employee Earns USC Leadership Certificate

Atticus Simpson, of Cheraw, recently earned the graduate certificate in higher education leadership from The University of South Carolina.  The certificate is an academic credential approved by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, and sponsored by the South Carolina Technical College System to advance the knowledge and competencies of professionals in the South Carolina technical college sector.

The certificate is a two-year (six-semester) program which requires participants to take classes in the areas of higher education finance, assessment, teaching, legal affairs and leadership.  Simpson was specifically selected by Northeastern Technical College administrators to participate in the certificate program and started taking classes in January of 2008.

He received his certificate on December 4 in Columbia where he was selected by classmates to serve as a speaker during the graduation ceremony.  Five other employees at NETC have also completed the program including Cathy Pelfrey, of Cheraw, Melisa Johnson, of Chesterfield, Leron Peterkin, of Bennettsville, Diane Dyches, of Patrick, and Dr. Forest Mahan, of Cheraw.

Simpson is the director of institutional advancement at the college where he has worked since June of 2005.
