NETC Student Wins Naming Contest

Journey Kirby, a Northeastern Technical College student from Society Hill, received recognition from the college for winning a “Name our  Newsletter Contest”.  Kirby submitted The NETC Insider as her idea for the name of the newly created college newsletter distributed in Chesterfield, Marlboro and Dillon counties. 

The college received more than twenty submissions from NETC students, employees and citizens of each county and then conducted a student vote on a list of names emerging from a selection process.  Students cast their ballots in class and “NETC Insider” received the most votes.  The new name will appear on the next edition of the college newsletter planned for a November distribution. 

For winning the contest, Dr. Ron Bartley (left), president of NETC and Cathy Pelfrey (right), editor of The NETC Insider, presented Kirby (center) with gift certificates donated by Cheraw businesses FATZ Café and Walmart. 

Kirby, a senator in the college Student Government Association, will complete her associate degree in early childhood development this December and is using NETC as her pathway to a career in teaching.
