NETC Instructor Recognized as Governor's Distinguished Professor of the Year

Business and office technology instructor Melisa Johnson has received the 2010 Governor’s Distinguished Professor of the Year award for Northeastern Technical College.

Johnson began her tenure at NETC as an adjunct faculty member for the Office Systems Technology Program in 2001. In 2003, she was hired full-time as an instructor and was appointed assistant dean of the Business and Administrative Office Technology program in 2008. She also serves as an advisor for the National Technical Honor Society.

Johnson received a secretarial science diploma from King’s College and an associate degree in accounting from Northeastern Technical College. She earned a Bachelor of Science in business management from Gardner-Webb University, a Master of Education from Francis Marion University and a certificate in Higher Education Leadership from the University of South Carolina.

She was nominated for the award by faculty colleagues and the college administration for her teaching excellence and commitment to higher education.

“Although teaching presents a different challenge each day, making a difference in someone’s life by providing them with an education makes it all worthwhile,” Johnson said.

Johnson lives in Mt. Croghan, where she is a member of Town Council and chair of the Beautification Committee.
