Job Seekers to Be ‘Souped’ and ‘Suited’ for Success
“Soup, Salad and Suits” will put people on the fast track to employment thanks to a joint venture by Northeastern Technical College, Healthy Woman/Chesterfield General Hospital and the Department of Employment and Workforce Development.
Faculty, staff and industries are invited to share in a soup and salad lunch at the College on April 21 followed by a community job fair. NETC faculty and staff, as well as industry and business leaders, can get a free lunch ticket by donating a suit or professional dress to the Student Government Association. SGA members will establish a “Suit Closet” for students who might not have proper attire for a job interview.
Suits must be dry cleaned and sized in order to be accepted. Pee Dee Cleaners of Cheraw is offering a discount to participants in the “Soup, Salad and Suits” initiative.
“How you dress for an interview can set the stage for the interview,” said Sherrie Chapman, dean of NETC’s Continuing Education Division. “It is the first impression that the interviewer has of the person being interviewed.”
Before the luncheon, local businesses will have representatives on hand from 10 to 11 a.m. for a session of speed interviews with students.
Local businesses and industries will provide the catered lunch of soup and salad from 11:30 a.m. to noon. During the luncheon, Donna Damico from Chesterfield General Hospital will provide a motivational talk on “Attitudes in the Workplace” beginning at noon.
Following the “Soup, Salad and Suit” event, the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce, in collaboration with Northeastern Technical College, will sponsor a job fair for the entire community. The job fair will be held in the auditorium from 1 to 4 p.m. All businesses and industries are invited to participate in this event.
