Senator Gerald Malloy to Be Keynote Speaker at NETC Graduation May 21

Northeastern Technical College will hold its 2011 Commencement Exercises at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Cheraw High School in Cheraw. The public is invited to attend.

The commencement speaker will be Senator Gerald Malloy, who will celebrate with the College the achievements of the graduates and offer them encouraging words to continue to work toward their goals in life.

A Chesterfield County native, Malloy was elected to the State Senate in 2002 and serves District 29, which includes Chesterfield, Darlington, Lee and Marlboro counties.

Malloy earned a Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina and has a law office in Hartsville. He is a past president of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, a past member of the South Carolina Supreme Court Commission on Lawyer Conduct and a representative for the Fourth Judicial Circuit for Young Lawyers Division with the South Carolina Bar Association. He currently serves as chairman of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Task Force in the State Senate.

Malloy has received numerous awards for his legal work as a public defender and for his efforts to serve his community.

He is chairman of the Hartsville Recreation Commission, former president of the Hartsville Northern Youth Baseball League, former member of the Hartsville Downtown Development Board, member of the University of South Carolina Alumni Board, founding member of the Butler Heritage Foundation, member of the Governor’s School for Science and Math Foundation Board, member of the Lions Club and a life member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He also serves on the Board of Trustees and is chairman of the Finance Committee for Jerusalem Baptist Church.
