New SCTCS President Returns to His Roots for Campus Tour

Dr. Darrel Staat, the new president of the South Carolina Technical College System, visited Northeastern Technical College’s Cheraw campus on Oct. 5.

The visit was a trip down memory lane for Dr. Staat, who was a faculty member of the College from 1974 to 1978 when it was known as Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College. He came on board as an English instructor, advancing to division chair and eventually dean of instruction.

Dr. Staat was given a tour of the campus, which has nearly doubled in size since his time here in the seventies. He commented that  he could remember when the great oak trees in front of the campus were planted.

A few faculty members who are as “old as the oaks” remember working with Dr. Staat and welcomed him back to Cheraw during a scheduled meet and greet with NETC employees.

Dr. Staat said he always enjoyed the friendliness of the people in Cheraw and was glad to see that had not changed.
