| The staff at Student Support Services (SSS) is committed to helping students pursue pathways to their future. No matter what one's educational dreams may be, the staff at SSS is prepared to help make those dreams a reality. |
|
To utilize the services offered by SSS, one must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. Students must have a need for academic assistance and meet at least one of the listed criteria:
- Family’s income must meet federal economic guideline
- One must be a first generation college student (neither parent has a baccalaureate degree)
- A disabled individual

Financial Aid Counseling
Our staff provides information and assistance in planning an educational pathway. By directing students to the correct NETC staff member, we help them find out which awards they quality for and how to maximize their potential benefits. |

Academic Advisement
We have staff members to help steer students in the right direction for whatever academic pathway they wish to pursue. Students will receive individualized attention and extra information as they set out to choose their courses. Our staff is also able to contact instructors if students should find themselves uncomfortable in handling some situations. |

Tutoring
Staff is available for tutoring in most subject areas. Tutoring is done on site, before or after class, or on days when students may have free time. There is no charge for students enrolled in SSS who wish to utilize our tutoring services. |

Developmental Skills
Our staff is able to provide students with specific training in study methods, motivational skills, effective note taking, effective communication, exam taking skills and time management, as well as specific academic skills. |

Career Awareness & Planning
Our staff works with the NETC Career Center staff to give students the optimal opportunity in making career decisions. Services available through the Career Center include personality profiles, interest surveys and occupational searches, as well as assistance with job skills techniques. |

Cultural Enrichment
In an effort to provide students with opportunities to become more culturally aware, SSS participants are encouraged to take advantage of the variety of trips made available. Trips may include museums, art festivals, scientific exhibits, and tours of governmental centers. |

College Awareness
SSS offers several trips annually to tour private and public colleges and universities in South and North Carolina. Trips are typically overnight excursions and in the past have included cultural stops in metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, Charlotte, and Raleigh. Trips are free and include meals and overnight accommodations when appropriate. |

Personal Counseling
Our staff can assist students in locating services to help make adjustments to college life, find help with family problems, or cope socially. Services include individual or group counseling, staff consultations, and if necessary, referrals to off-campus agencies. |

Referrals
If one needs additional counseling, referrals to other agencies, such as Vocational Rehabilitation and Mental Health, may be made. Thorough evaluations are firsst conducted by SSS staff. |
