Phi Theta Kappa Volunteers at Soup Kitchen

Northeastern Technical College (NETC) Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society volunteered to serve dinner to residents at the First Baptist Church Soup Kitchen on Tuesday, November 19, located at 126 Greene St.

NETC's own Chef LaTasha McCutchen, the winner of Hell's Kitchen Season 13, prepared dinner. The meal included caesar salad topped with McCutchen's special gourmet caesar dressing. The main dish was baked lasagna prepared two different ways, with fresh dinner rolls. For dessert, the guest chose between cheesecake topped with a mixed berry reduction or caramel drizzle.

NETC donated the food used to prepare dinner that evening. "When we give, we must give our best," Wendy Woods, Phi Theta Kappa Advisor, said.

Employees from NETC and Schaeffler Group were in attendance and helped serve guests alongside Phi Theta Kappa members.

"It really felt good to give back this evening to our community. I enjoyed doing it with these amazing coworkers, and Hell's Kitchen Season 13 winner," Rebecca Lindsey shared on her Facebook Page. Lindsey is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and a student of the NETC Schaeffler apprenticeship program.

The Soup Kitchen is an interfaith community volunteer ministry, organized by the Chesterfield County Coordinating Council to provide quality services to residents through a unified effort. They bring organizations together to reach common goals.

Earlier this month, Phi Theta Kappa Members sponsored a "Donation Drive" to collect new children's toys and other items for residents living at the New Beginnings Transitional Shelter. Volunteering at the Soup Kitchen is a part of the group's continued effort to participate in service projects to help people in the community.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the international honor society of two-year colleges and academic programs. They help students grow as scholars and leaders.
